Si Phan Don (15th March 2011)

Sunset on Don Khong

This morning we’re off to Si Phan Don otherwise known as 4000 islands. In particular the island of Don Khong. Which of course means I have to get on a boat again......and again......and again.....and......!!!

Si Phan Don

For the time being though it’s just the one boat journey but why do these boats have to be so small? Unnecessary I think....at least ours was slightly larger than this one we saw!

That is one small boat!

On the other side, this time we made for the first place over the river which was really nice with a lovely little upstairs veranda just perfect for sundowners.

After a bite to eat the three of us opted for pedal power to see what was on the other side of the island, now as many of you may be aware I’m really not that into cycling, preferring the type with an engine any day. But these guys assured me it was easy cycling in Laos so off we went and I have to agree it was great fun, a bit like cycling in Holland apart from the fact there’s nothing else on the road! But it’s all very flat here and really quite easy, we managed to cover 8km in no time at all had time for a coke by the river and watched the sunset before hot footing back over the other side because we didn’t have lights and the island doesn’t have street lights!! In fact electricity seemed pretty scarce in places. Great place though, I wish I had more time here.
